Starter Motor Replacement

A failed starter motor prevents engine cranking. Common symptoms include clicking, slow cranking, or no response.

Tools Required:

Socket setWrenchesWire brush for connections

Safety Notes

  • Disconnect battery first
  • Starter can be heavy

General Steps:

Disconnect battery negative terminal.

Locate starter motor on engine block.

Disconnect electrical connections from starter.

Remove starter mounting bolts.

Remove starter - may need to wiggle free.

Note shimming if present.

Compare old and new starters.

Install new starter with original shims if needed.

Reconnect electrical connections.

Reconnect battery and test.
