Hydraulic Fitting Identification
Identify hydraulic hose fittings, crimps, and connection styles for replacement and repair.
Hydraulic Fitting Identification
Correct fitting identification ensures proper hose assembly and leak-free connections. Fittings vary by end style, size, and pressure rating.
Tools Required:
Safety Notes
- • Incorrect fitting selection causes dangerous failures
- • Always match pressure ratings
General Steps:
Identify hose dash size (-4, -6, -8, etc.) which indicates 1/16" increments of ID.
Common fitting ends: straight, 45° elbow, 90° elbow, bulkhead.
Measure seat angle: 37° JIC is most common, 45° is also used.
Identify fitting gender: male has external threads, female has internal.
Swivel fittings rotate after assembly - fixed fittings do not.
Note hose type: 1-wire, 2-wire, 4-spiral - affects pressure rating.
Match fitting crimp style to hose type - crimps are not interchangeable.
Take photos and measurements to hydraulic shop for exact matching.
