Hydraulic Control Tuning - Using a Cushion Valve
Install or adjust cushion valves to soften cylinder end-of-stroke impacts for smoother operation.

General guide below applies to all models.
Cushion Valve Installation and Adjustment
Cushion valves slow cylinder movement at the end of stroke, reducing impact shock and extending component life. They can be installed aftermarket or adjusted if factory equipped.
Tools Required:
Safety Notes
- • Depressurize system before installing valves
- • Test carefully after adjustment
General Steps:
Identify which cylinders have harsh end-of-stroke impact.
Cushion valves install in the cylinder port lines or are built into cylinders.
Aftermarket cushion valves thread into existing port fittings.
Adjust cushion by turning adjustment screw - clockwise for more cushion.
Too much cushion causes sluggish response at end of stroke.
Too little cushion allows harsh impact and component wear.
Test and adjust incrementally until desired feel is achieved.
Cushion affects both extend and retract depending on valve location.
